Through the theoretical and practical courses required by aspiring actors, conferences, applied theatre projects, inter-institutional internships, professional connections in Türkiye and abroad, and joint programmes, the department aims to enable students to practise acting professionaly. This professional field encompasses theatre, television, cinema, productions for digital platforms, interdisciplinary performances, teaching and many other forms of performance within the performing arts. While studying classical acting theories and approaches, candidates are guided and encouraged to discover and strengthen their own artistic voice through their distinctive talents, artistic perspectives, and vocal and physical abilities. At the same time, they gain contemporary academic knowledge of classical and modern acting theories, approaches and international acting literature. By drawing maximum benefit from theoretical courses such as theatre aesthetics, theatre theory, theatre history and dramaturgy, they learn to apply this knowledge in practice and prepare to become creative actors rather than imitators. Students are invited to examine different branches of art and question the place and function of contemporary art in the world. They enrich their experience by working with master artists who are experts in their fields and represent diverse artistic approaches. While learning the conventions of theatre and its related industries, students also develop the ethical awareness required to practise their profession with dignity. To break the cycle in which an acting career may depend on external factors or chance, they acquire extensive knowledge, cultural awareness and experience centred on their own artistic identity.
Students in the Acting Training Module
From the first year of their education, students perform on stage under professional conditions and, with guidance from industry professionals affiliated with the University, become acquainted with productions in theatre, television, cinema and digital media. Taking advantage of the University’s location in İstanbul, they are encouraged to explore al the artistic opportunities offered by the metropolis. Graduates may work at publicly funded institutions such as the State Theatres, City Theatres and Municipal Theatres, as well as private theatres. They may also establish their own theatre companies or work as instructors and voice-over artists at various institutions. The department also aims to meet the needs of the national and international television, cinema and entertainment industries. Students develop an awareness that acting is a creative art of interpretation and that their development will continue throughout life in paralel with experience and changes in the contemporary world. Recognising that every actor is unique, the programme places importance on enabling students to discover their artistic identity and develop it through comprehensive knowledge and skills, while also understanding that acting requires personal brand management and awareness of the industry.
Throughout the four-year programme, aspiring actors receive training in movement, breathing, voice, diction and phonetics to meet the technical requirements of the profession. Dance and vocal training courses develop the complementary abilities expected of contemporary actors. Students also acquire the physical skills required for acting. Fundamental and advanced acting techniques and acting-for-camera systems are studied through practical work with master artists. Interdisciplinary performance projects are conducted. Based on the understanding that theoretical knowledge also shapes an artist’s identity, students receive a strong theoretical foundation and are encouraged to transform this knowledge into aesthetic awareness.

Acting Department Course Schedule
Applicants to the Acting Department must prepare two excerpts—one dramatic and one comedic, slcted from classical or modern works—and perform them during the face-to-face examination. The candidate’s improvisational dance performance, general knowledge, and voice and speech skills are also assessed and reflected in the examination score.
